LULLA

For this Challenge we wanted to design a product that would reduce Anxiety and Stress. 

College students are struggling with stress and anxiety. Listening to music and calming sounds a common to temporarily alleviate stress and anxiety, though one of the common ways for students to listen to music, before sleeping at night with earphones and headphones intact, can lead to permanent ear damage. 

We created a pillow with speakers and a pressure sensor embedded inside. The speakers play soothing sounds when a user rests on the pillow via the pressure sensor. Lighting and an accompanying app are planned and prototyped for a future iteration of the pillow.

A few “sound pillows” exist on the market, but none of them are coherently designed to combine practicality with appeal. Keeping the comfort and form of the pillow at the core of our product, we were able to embed the speakers and pressure sensor without the user feeling either while resting on the pillow. Moreover, we enhanced the speakers to be loud and clear enough for the user to find them as intimate as earphones while quiet enough so that they can only be heard by the user resting on the pillow.

In addition to the main feature of the pillow, we incorporated LED backlights to brighten the pillow with a relaxing color. While this feature may seem like a gimmick for the everyday user, this feature is intended for users who actively use color therapy to reduce their stress and anxiety.

Given the limited timeframe for this challenge, We also drafted a concept wireframe for an accompanying app, in which the user could control the music, lighting, and duration of each through their phone. Finally, through our waveform logo, matching font, and purple gradient color of choice, we intend for the design of the Lulla pillow to be simple, calming, and desirable.
